A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit about an unauthorized data disclosure that Cornerstone National Insurance Company (“Cornerstone”) discovered on or about November 29, 2021, where there was unauthorized access to and disclosure of consumer personal information (“PI”), including names and driver’s license numbers. Plaintiffs allege that Cornerstone should be liable for the unauthorized data disclosure because Cornerstone should have taken greater care to protect consumers from potential exposure of their PI. Cornerstone denies these claims and any wrongdoing. The parties have agreed to settle to avoid the expense and burdens of litigation.

The settlement includes all persons residing in the United States whose PI was compromised in the Unauthorized Data Disclosure announced by Cornerstone on or near August 4, 2022, and who were sent a notice by Cornerstone that their information may have been disclosed. The size of the Settlement Class is estimated to be approximately 233,504 individuals (“Settlement Class Members”).

The settlement allows Settlement Class Members to request a pro rata cash payment from the $525,000.00 settlement fund, estimated to be between approximately $25 and $78. The amount may be different and will depend upon the number of Settlement Class Members who file valid claims.

You must use the Notice ID and Confirmation Code received with your postcard notice to verify your identity as a Settlement Class Member. The Court in charge of this case still has to decide whether to grant final approval of the settlement. Payments will only be made after the Court grants final approval of the settlement and after any appeals are resolved.
